Due to accidents, poor oral health care, or diseases, you may have some or all of your teeth missing, leaving you with a gap. Dentures, both complete and partial, are meant to replace your lost teeth and gums from extractions or other issues. Complete Dentures
Complete or full dentures are used when you don't have a single tooth remaining. They are fixed on the jaws through suction and can be removed at any time when sleeping or cleaning your dental region. Complete dentures are divided into two, immediate dentures and conventional dentures. Immediate dentures are made before the teeth are removed and put immediately after removal. The advantage of this is that you'll have the fake teeth while healing, but you will need re-adjustments as the jaw and gums shrink when healing, affecting their placement.
 Partial Dentures
Partial dentures are placed when you have some teeth remaining. They are fitted on the natural teeth or dental implants. For this procedure, our professionals will reshape the teeth to ensure they fit the partial denture. If no teeth are present and you want the partial dentures, small implants will be done on the jawbone before placing the overdenture.
How Dentures Are Made
After losing your teeth, the socket gets filled with the bone and gum, which changes its shape. The process takes some months before reaching a stable shape. Conventional full dentures are made eight to twelve weeks after you lose the teeth. The first process involves taking the impression, which is used to create models of the mouth. Our dentist will start building the dentures on the model, then transfer them to the patients' mouth once complete. Finally, the last stage will involve ensuring everything fits as desired, and the appearance looks good. You will be required to visit our offices for check ups once a week for a month to ensure everything settles well. After this, monthly visits will be necessary for denture readjustments.
An immediate denture is given to patients as a temporary measure until the final denture is created. It is used to hold the gum and jaw as they heal after removing the teeth. They do not fit into the gum and the jaw.
Caring for the Dentures
One needs to take care of the partial or complete dentures to increase their lifespan. Dentures can last for more than five years if used well. But, if not well taken care of, tartar, plaque, and other oral infections will build up and cause bad breath, gum problems, and stains. Also, you have to remove them for cleaning. Cleaning involves running them under clean water, removing any food particles, then brushing them before applying mild soap or a denture cleaner. Rinse in clean water before wearing them again. Do not use toothpaste and other cleaners since they will corrode the dentures.
